What Is ALS?
- ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that attacks motor neurons in the brainstem and spinal cord
- ALS eventually leads to total paralysis, including the inability to move, walk, speak, swallow and breathe
- The mind and senses of a person with ALS remain unaffected and intact
- The cause of ALS is unknown and there is no cure or significant treatment to this day.
The ALS Association Massachusetts Chapter, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization dedicated soley to the fight against ALS.
