Five percent of all ALS cases are familial and passed from generation to generation. The Palmer Family has lost nine members to ALS.
Helen Marie Palmer was a mother of four children and died at age 55. Two of her children Marie and Norman inherited the disease.
Norman Keith Elliott, son of Helen Palmer, was the age of 44 when he died. He had no children
Marie Helen Dowling Jones had six children. She was an avid baseball fan of the Seattle Mariners and was very involved in her children’s activities as they grew. Marie died at the age of 57.
Jeffrey Richard Jones, son of Marie Jones, was also a great baseball fan. Jeff was with his father at spring training for the Seattle Mariners when he died. Jeff loved to sing and play guitar. Jeff died at the age of 40.
Helen’s sister Eleanor Palmer, passed away before she contracted ALS. Eleanor had four children. Three of Eleanor’s children, Barbara, Ellen, and Sylvia each had the disease.
Barbara Joan Hyatt, daughter of Eleanor, had three daughters. Barbara was a joy to her family. She was very involved with her church and known as a Christian motivational speaker to Women about faith and inspirational topics. She liked to play the violin. She was 63 when she died.
Connie Hyatt Waits, daughter of Barbara, had three children. She was very involved with her children and their activities. She was a wonderful example of faith and strength through her illness. She was the most recent member of the Palmer family line to pass away 1/25/06 at the age of 48.
Ellen Bradley Bucknell, daughter of Eleanor left 7 children when she died at the age of 40.
Michelle Bucknell, daughter of Ellen, had two children and died at the age of 41.
Sylvia Bradley Curdy, daughter of Eleanor, had four children. She was very active in her church and served willingly to help others. She loved to play the flute and share her talent with others. Sylvia loved to play games with her grandchildren. She died at 63.
